Dominic Barberi graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with MMus Perf (Distinction) under Stephen Robertson. He has been a member of the vocal faculty at Berlin Opera Academy since it began in 2016 and is their Director of Studio for the upcoming summer programme. A member of the Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden Opera Studio supported by the Liz Mohn Foundation between 2015-18, his roles there included Pietro Simon Boccanegra and Barone Douphol La Traviata (under the baton of Daniel Barenboim), Tom Un Ballo in Maschera, Sarastro Die Zauberflöte and Colline La Bohème. Highlights include his French debut as Bottom A Midsummer Night’s Dream Opéra National de Montpellier where he recently returned as Alidoro La Cenerentola , his Spanish debut as Giorgio I Puritani at Opera Oviedo, his American debut as Titurel in a new production of Parsifal to celebrate Indiana University’s Bicentennial year, Angelotti Tosca at Oper Leipzig, Sarastro Die Zauberflöte and a recital at the Berlin Staatsoper. as well as succesful role debuts as Alvise Badoero La Giaconda (Tiroler Landestheater, Innsbruck), Publio La Clemenza di Tito and Zuniga Carmen (Staatstheater Braunschweig). He has also appeared as 1.Soldat Salome at Opera de Paris, and in Doktor Faust at Teatro di Maggio. A member of the National Theatre Mannheim from 2018 to 2020 his roles included Alidoro La Cenerentola, Colline La Bohème, Titurel Parsifal and Angelotti Tosca. Dominic has appeared as a guest soloist throughout Europe in amongst others; Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s John Passion, Matthew Passion, Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, Mozart’s Requiem, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, a world premiere of Luther Oratorio at the Berlin Philharmonic, with the Dunedin Consort at the Edinburgh Festival and with RIAS Kammerkor Berlin. In 2019 he was invited to the Operalia Competition in Prague and reached the semi finals of the Wigmore Hall Song Competition. In 2017 Dominic represented England in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition and was a finalist in the IVC s' Hertogenbosch Competition, receiving the Handel Award. Future projects include Collatinus The Rape of Lucretia and Der Einarmige Die Frau ohne Schatten at Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, Colline La Bohème at Oper Klosterneuburg and a new production of Salome at Paris Opera.Bio Short: As a former member of the Berlin Staatsoper International Opera Studio and ensemble member at the National Theatre Mannheim, Dominic performs lead roles throughout Europe at Opera houses including Paris, Leipzig, Komische Oper Berlin, Montpellier, Toulouse, Florence and Oviedo. He believes technique facilitates artistry and teaches a technical approach whilst focused on performing, allowing for confidence and freedom when singing.
