A native of Franklin Massachusetts and currently based in Los Angeles, Christopher Broyles is a versatile performer, dedicated educator and lifelong student of music. As a performer, Chris has been heard playing chamber music, orchestral and solo concerts around the globe in prestigious venues such as the Vienna Musikverein, Munich Herkulessaal, Symphony Hall in Boston, and the Regina Mundi Church in Soweto South Africa to name a few. He is equally comfortable performing early music on period instruments as he is premiering music written yesterday. Recent highlights include his work with Delirium Musicum, A Far Cry and Junges Philharmonisches Orchester München.
As an educator, Chris has been teaching since he started playing as he operates on the belief that if he knows two notes he can teach someone who only knows one note. Teaching is a calling much more than a job for Chris and his students describe him as "curious," "excited about his students progress" and "passionate about all things music." He has taught at institutions such as Trala School of Music, Virtu.Academy, Daniel Kauffman Music Lessons, Franklin String School, Rivers School Conservatory ChamberMusicLab, Greenwood Junior Music Camp and more in addition to maintaining his private teaching studio online and in person. One of Chris’s most treasured teaching positions has been working at the Grafton Correctional Institution as a volunteer music teacher, alongside Renovare Music, in the Unmuted Strings program. Volunteering with the men behind bars on a weekly basis has reaffirmed and strengthened his beliefs that music education should be accessible to everyone and that the skills we learn in the practice room(e.g. commitment, connection, creativity, problem solving, vulnerability etc.) are transferable and will enhance our everyday lives.
Chris is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Viola Performance at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music with Professor Yura Lee. His most important musical mentors include musicians like Bruce Coppock, Donald Krishnaswami, Lucia May and Peter Slowik. When not in the practice room or teaching studio, you can find Chris on a long walk, in a coffee shop or enjoying live music.
