Raised on the central coast of California and currently living in Nashville, TN, Elise Leavy has a distinctly unique voice as a singer and songwriter. Often likened to Joni Mitchell and Judee Sill, Elise says it must be the California seawater getting inside her head and heart from an early age. She has been writing songs since she was 8 years old, and teaching from home and at music camps since she graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music at age 19.  “Singing songs is my way of communicating with the world,” she says. “And I love nothing more than working with others on how to communicate through music!”

Having grown up among folk musicians, and attended “fiddle camps” since the age of 13, she has had extensive experience in the beloved pop and folk music of her parents’ time (such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell) and traditional music (including bluegrass, old time, and country music), as well as having earned a degree in improvisation (including experience in gospel, R&B and jazz). She began playing the accordion at 11 years old, and soon after, learned to play guitar and piano, occasionally dappling in fiddle, mandolin, and other instruments that were more popular at music camp. At some point during her time at camps, she started teaching vocal and songwriting classes, and discovered a love for sharing secrets and songs.

As a teacher, Elise creates a warm and welcoming environment for anyone who has the wish to spend time working on music. She specializes in voice and songwriting, but is very willing to work on other instruments and basic or advanced ideas of music. "Music is about play, and connection, and self-expression," she says. "As long as you can keep your love for it thriving, anything is worth learning and will expand your understanding of music and life. That's what I am here for: to share with other people my secrets, for playing and writing music, but also for learning music with a lightness that will hopefully bring a little extra joy into every part of your life."
